    General Update:

Here are some things that have happened with the twins lately:
    • I got to experience the first snow flurries of 2006 in early January with my daughter; T was really curious about the snow disappearing in her hand.
    • J started coughing Thursday January 12th.  Friday night, around 6pm, I fed the twins some Kool-aid gelatin cups that they had never had before(coincidentally containing red dye 40).  At 7:30 J went to bed in his room, and T came to mine.  At 10:30 J woke up crying and screaming; I went to comfort him, but he was coughing too hard for me to leave him alone.  I worried he would vomit and aspirate in the night, so I brought him to my room; T woke up and I took her to her room.  J stayed up crying until his papa got home; at 12:30 we were laying in bed trying to get J to sleep...cough - PUKE!!!  Then he puked 7 more times in the next 10 hours.  I waited on the pediatrician to open since they make fun of my multiple hospital visits; however, when I called the pediatrician's office they sent me to the ER anyway.  They did a horrible job, took no blood, took no lab work except a chest x-ray; they said he must of had a stomach virus that made him hurl, and he had a viral lung infection - not pneumonia.
    • Also, that Kool-aid gelatin cup caused J's eczema to flare up behind his knees - red dye #40 was the only thing I think could have caused it.
    • About a week after T was diagnosed w/ pnuemonia, I took J to his pediatrician.  He wasn't vomiting anymore, but his chest congestion, fever, and attitude were getting worse despite the oral steroids I was trying to give him.  The doctor took me seriously and treated my son like the hospital should have: 2 breathing treatments, chest x-rays, blood drawn, nose swabbed for the respiratory virus panel.  2 days later I was starting to feel really weak, tired, achy, etc; the doctor called with J's nasal swab results - J was diagnosed with the flu(Influenza A).
    • Due to T's 9 days of antibiotics, she got a yeast infection; it took forever to get rid of , and she was miserable the whole time.
    • I pricked J's fingers last week to get a blood sample for his Alpha-1 screening; I carry a "Z" gene that may have been passed to him. No big deal, we just need to know for the future. T will be tested at a later time - like when I have 3 big guys holding her down.
    • The crib mattresses have been moved, climbed on, slid on, and partially ripped open by the twins.
    • The first weekend in February really tested my tolerance of babies flinging poo.
    • NAKED!  The both get naked all the time.  I'll turn around from one to see the other butt-naked with a Kix stuck to their butt.
    • Though it took me a while to update "T's first 100 words said" list, she is beyond 100 words since January.  I'm not going to bother with the "things said" lists now that the kids are mimicing and saying so much.
    • I might add a "Kids say the darndest things" list eventually though.
    • Those snow flurries were nothing compared to the flurries I saw February 11.  I haven't seen real snow in years!  Snow sticks about once or twice a decade here now; when I was a kid, it seemed like it snowed every year and stuck too.  Darn that Global Warming!
    • Be back as soon as I remember more - I try to block the depressing things out.

T's first trip to the ER

Sweet T finally got her first reason to go to Children's Hospital.  A week ago yesterday T developed a cough that has gotten worse ever since.  Then last Sunday she laid around on the floor and her bed ALL day; she would roll around like she couldn't get comfortable, and as long as J was in the room with her she was crying.

At 9:25am I got a successful rectal temp taken - 102.2; I administered Tylenol and waited four hours.  Temp at 1:25 - 101.2; I administered more Tylenol and waited four more hours.  Temp at 5:35 - 102; I sent my hubby to the store for Motrin.  At 6:35 T got her Motrin, and we waited 6 hours; at 12:25am her rectal temp soared past 104.0 so we "pulled the plug" and I rushed her to the hospital.

Upon arriving at 1:30am we sat in the waiting room of the ER waiting for triage to call to check T out.  Triage called us at 2:30 or 2:40, and then we waited again until 5:15 when we got taken to the actual ER.  There we slept on a hospital bed together waiting for medical staff to get to us.

At 6:30 am the first nurse came in to talk, followed by a doctor.  The doctor agreed with me - most likely flu or pneumonia.  They took a nasal swab to test for flu, and T got her first chest x-rays.  Her oxygen saturation was in the high 80's - low 90's, so she got oxygen as well.

I saw her x-ray pop up on the computer screen outside our ER room; instantly I knew it was her x-ray (the open mouth, screaming and arms pinned above her head were the giveaway).  I could see she had a cloudy spot in her left lung; within minutes a new doctor (shift change) told us T had bacterial pneumonia, and would have to be admitted - how fun.

They normally don't have to admit kids with pneumonia, but her oxygen saturation was below 93, and that is unacceptable (especially with her family history of respiratoy ailments).  T had also not been eating or drinking well; they had me give her 3cc of gatorade every 5 minutes to try to hydrate her.  It wasn't long before she got an IV with fluids and antibiotics.

We got to room 473 around 11 am and T went right to sleep.  I had never seen her just lay there staring at the wall like that...my poor girl!  We battled her fever throughout the day, and she had albuterol nebulizer treatments every four hours.  I must admit both T and I made it a point to sleep as much as possible to make up for the night before.

Around 10:00pm her fever finally broke for good; her dad and uncle came to visit and bring me food.  Since her fever broke her heart rate slowed by about 60 beats per minute; that sounds like a nice break for her heart to get.  From 3pm - 7am she only drank 1.5 ounces of fluids.  Her oxygen saturation stayed between 95-98 for most of the night, and she wasn't physically working so hard to breathe.

About 6:30am Monday morning I awoke to T standing in the crib about to get out to get her toy off of the floor.  She still felt bad, but she was talking, walking, and watching tv again.  She began drinking well again, and even ate some crackers.

They hooked me up with T's own inhaler, a laxative (she's always poopin' hard, dry marbles), some killer butt-creme that helps with itchy yeast too, and a super-lotion for the little bumps on T's legs and arms (keratosis pilaris).  We were discharged around 11:30am Monday.

Of course the story doesn't end there; this is expected to run its course through the next three weeks then T will get another x-ray done to confirm the pneumonia has cleared out.  She has been keeping up well with J for 2-3 hours at a time, but then they must be separated for her sake.

Below are photos (hopefully) in order from 4:35 pm Sunday - 11:45 Monday.

    Allergy Results Are In

It has been a month since J got 25cc's of blood drawn for allergy testing; yesterday we went back for the results:
    • Good News - J is not allergic to dust, cockroach, grass, ragweed, pollen, shrimp, crab, lobster, codfish, soy, wheat, milk, coconut, cashew, almond, or anything else in the panels they tested, that I didn't catch except below.
    • Bad News - J has a STRONG, potentially fatal allergy to the peanut protien; he is also borderline allergic to eggs (hives from birthday cake, scrambled eggs for breakfast = egg drop soup in the playpen).  They said he is right in the middle on cats and dogs...not allergic, but not, not allergic either.

    Little Things

Below is a picture of J by his nursery door; on that door you will notice a 5 foot strip of missing paint & wood...I think T did it.  We switched their door with ours until we can afford to replace it.

J now has enough hair for a small ponytail.  It is interesting how T's hair grows long all over while J's hair grows longest in the back.  Photo below of J's small ponytail.

J is currently cutting his 17th tooth; I can't get in T's mouth to check her out.

Last night I popped J on the bare butt because he had taken his diaper off AGAIN.  I laid him down and he hugged me while crying from the spanking.  I told him I was sorry I had to spank him, but he shouldn't take his diaper off.  Then I said, "You don't take your diaper off," and he said (in a sweet, heart-breaking voice) "Sorry."  He got big hugs for that; then today after he bit T and I put him in time-out, he told T "Sorry."

Everyone seems to say you should let kids fall asleep on their own; so that means sometimes they crash in odd spots.  T fell asleep on her wooden bed frame today for nap.  I know I could have moved her, but she wakes up angry...so I left her.  She seemed comfortable though; she even slept for 2 hours. 2 photos below.

    100 words said

J officially reached 100 documented words said yesterday; not just said...says - he knows all of them very well.  It all began with "Cat"; he crossed the 100th word mark with "Pocket".  Now his "words" list below begins with 101.  I have meant to mention his new language trick...short sentences.  He had said "purple ball" and "right back" for months; when I got back in town last week, I found out he asked "where's mama?" to my hubby.  He was saying "fan off", "tv off" too; but then, on 12-10 he said "Turn TV off."  That's a sentence...only missing an adjective, that's a darn sentence - I see that verb!

T's language has been picking up as well; she is almost to 80 words, but she is so much more vocal (she speaks in her own language).  T also keeps time with songs well; for examle, she dances at the opening song of Muppets Take Mahattan (their new favorite movie) and sings the words she knows at the perfect times.  We thought J was the more musical child when he was younger, but T seems more responsive to music now.  Twins always change.

I've got to go clean something...I'll leave you with my hubby's elf shoes - enjoy!

    Describe: Toddler

Below you will find a photo of a 19 month old specimen (J) with "toddler" characteristics pointed out(click to enlarge)...

    Rocking Horse

Last summer my hubby's cousin moved from AL to MO and needed to get rid of a few of his son's old things.  He dropped off books, stuffed animals, blankets, videos, a table and chairs(made by his father for his son), and a wooden rocking horse(also made by his father for his son).  The horse appears to have been well-built, and well though out, but it came to us with it's head detached.

Being a family heirloom, we wanted to fix it up nice...maybe the original owner (hubby's cousin's son) will need it back in the next 10 years for his own kids (he's only 15 years old right now).

Below are pictures of hubby fixing the horse, and the fixed horse by the tree (I have since added a santa hat on the horse...not pictured).

I thought this was sweet - has nothing to do with my kids.

My hubby's boss (at his daytime job)has a baby girl...seems like she is about 3 months old now...give or take.  Anyway...I am attaching a picture of the cute little booties/shoes that he hung on his rear-view mirror...what a sweet dad!

    Update

The twins had their second dental check-up today - still no cavities!!!

The dentist's office experience was far less traumatic this time on all of us; whereas at their first check-up I freaked out when they took the kids back and said I couldn't come, this time I willingly gave my kids to the hygenist..."Good luck," I said snickering.  My hubby warned "Careful, he bites," and I added, "And she pulls out the toothbrush bristles."

A nurse/hygenist(whatever you want to call them) brought J out first and sat us in the consultation room.  "Where's our daughter?" hubby asks.  The whatever-lady said, "She's almost done, they will bring her right out."  About that time we look out of the window from the consultation room to the working area, and there goes T running like, well, like someone was chasing her.  Sure enough, about 6 or 7 steps back from T was the lucky whatever lady that had to chase her down.

All went well, despite the fact that both kids picked toys from the dentist's office that are deadly to toddlers; T got a way too small bouncy-ball, and J got a cheap plastic car that he had removed two wheels and an axle on before we got home (we live 2-3 minutes from the dentist).

And on a social note of observation, in the waiting room two boys came in with their mom while we were waiting for the kids appointment.  The younger boy was soooo darn cute...he just had this precious look about him.  Anyway, the boys' dad comes in, and the little one calls him "Uck" and points.  I dismissed it as a kid with a  normal to limited vocabulary for a kid about 18 months old.  So my kids are running around all noisy and friendly.  T is orbiting the little boy...they were the same height.  J ran up to him and waved...J is taller than this cute little boy.  So, I played that "guess the age" game in my head....I guess 18-20 months - definitely less than 2 years old.

The little boy's dad asks me how old "he" is, referring to T; I said "she" and her twin brother are 19 months.  His jaw dropped - "19 months?"  He was dumbfounded.  "And how old is your little guy?"  I asked, curious about his reaction to the twin's age.  "He's 4."  My jaw dropped...whoa...my kids are less than half his kid's age, and they could swollow him whole.  This guy was shocked at the number of teeth our kids have...16 teeth have been in since before they were 1.  I guess every kid is different.

At least he didn't ask if they were identical!

I forgot about the dresser thing...

I think I forgot to post about J's nap on the dresser 12-3-05.  You see, there for a week or two J could climb onto the dresser, but he couldn't get back off.  Due to T's obsession with staying up late, she is always in need of a nap; the only way she could get a nap last weekend was to wait till J got stuck on the dresser.  It worked, and I let him stay up there; after a while he fell asleep spanning the corners of both dressers....his butt in a puddle of pee, and his face in a puddle of drool...the tv was to his back on a snowy channel.

I did get him down, but only after snapping a few pics of the sleepy boy.  And he immediately woke his sister up.  In case you were wondering how we can let a kid play with a dvd player....my hubby put shipping tape over the tray so it couldn't be ejected.

Photos of dresser boy are below:

    Christmas Dinner

Today we had my hubby's cousin and aunt over for Xmas dinner; I know it seems early, but this was our only opportunity to see his cousin this year.  We had a great time talking and watching LOST.  Our friend Jeff came over too, because we consider him a part of the family(he even has a stocking hanging up).

All went well - my mother-in-law cooked up a huge feast and dessert...yummy pumpkin pie and cherry pie!  The twins made sure to vocally interfere with the "saying of grace" - mainly T(she's my little rebel girl  ).  The kids sat at their table in the corner. J filled up on juice and olives, while T actually ate all of her food(except what fell off the plate), and most of J's food.  We now know that T does not like olives, and J still doesn't like mashed potatoes.

I am very thankful that we got to see some of our family, but I do wish we could ALL get together sometime.  My hubby's other cousin will be in town in a week or two, and hopefully we will see him and his son then.  His uncle will be dealing with prostate surgery this month, so we probably won't get to see him and his wife until next year.

I am attaching a picture for "Uncle Jeff" that was taken 12-3-05 of him and J playing wth a car...hey Jeff, come over for a photo shoot sometime soon - we can dress you like santa & take pictures with the twins.

I'm back from my trip - I knew they would be different kids

I have returned from a 2.5 day business trip, and my children are different.  Actually, the idea that they look and act differdent is wearing off, as my infuence since I got home has been changing them back to the T & J I knew Tuesday morning.

While I was gone J asked his Papa, "Wheres mama?"  Since I've been home I have hard him say many two word phrases: "fan off", "tv off", "wheres bottle?".  My mom told me T is saying "flower" now.

Some of the good/cute things the kids do

This stuff is easier to break down into bullets with paragraphs:
    • We combined their beds, and when they sleep they seem to sleep better than they did sleeping far  apart; I did have to add a towel to the gap between bed to prevent toes and fingers snapping off - Before & After Photos below
    • You know those "Blind Cord Wraps" that are supposed to keep cords on window blinds too high for curious kids(as if they couldn't get hung in the blinds themselves)...anyway, I have attached a picture below of one for those who don't know.  The first or second time I found J on his dresser he had the blind cord wrap in his hand still attached to the blinds cord; he held it up to his chest in different spots and sat really still in between like he does for the doctor - that creative little dude imagines that blind cord wrapper is a stethoscope!
    • I never posted about it, but T can catch a big ball too; she started catching about 3 days after her brother.
    • Last night I was sitting in front of the toddler beds playing with the kids; J stood up on his toddler bed and ran toward the end of it...just before the last step he stopped, held up his hands, and said "Careful" just like I normally do.
    • My twins' Dr. Says, "They don't know how to hide things at this age(18 months)."  I wish I had pictures...T's hides her favorite toys all of the time.  She like pairs - Little People Lion and Polar Bear, matching fish, matching colored blocks.  Often I will find one of her favorite pairs tucked away in awkward spots that J never thinks to look in; I guess he doesn't think about it because he is after the pair she is currently playng with(usually lion and polar bear - she makes them kiss so much that they have both rubbed off most of their nose, and the polar bear's butt is covered in lion colored streaks).
    • Dr. in magazine says, "They cannot kick a ball intentionally at this age(18 months)."  Then why do we have family games of soccer(without goals)?  Both kids are relly good at kicking the ball on purpose.
    • Baths are full of entertainment a both kids try to lay down in a small baby tub.
    • For about a few days, a couple of weeks ago J stripped off his diaper(even if I put on 2 diapers) several times a day; the funny thing is he was peeing in megablocks...like filling up the 2 wide blue block in the photo below.  I think he's getting ready for potty training, but he freaks out if I sit him on his baby potty with his pants down.  Now he wears a regular size 5 diaper with a pull-up style diaper 1T-2T over it; on "trouble" days he wears his Spider-Man underwear 2T-3T over his diapers.
    • T was shoving raisins up her nose for a while...cereal too once or twice.
    • T is terrified of The Bear in The Big Blue House because that big bear sniffs the veiwer...he gets really close to the camera/tv and it  freaks T out BADLY.  We just got a video of the freak-out yesterday, but she has been doing it for 6 months, so we rarely play that DVD for her.  Anyway, on the video we shot yesterday, after T started freaking out, J walked over to her, layed his head on her, and gave hr a big kiss...AWWW!
    • Though J only uses his inhaler abou once a week, T picked up on him using it and what it looks like(his inhaler has a mask on it).  The cute thing is that while T was playing with her babydoll one night in November, she put a cup over her own face first, then over the baby's face - she was pretending  the cup was J's inhaler mask!  Photos below

    Allergist says...

My hubby took off of his morning job today to take care of our Little Miss; I had to run by the local community college to deliver a transcript early this morning, and it would have been too stressful manuvering through an unknown campus with both kids.  I'm glad T stayed home because J and I got rained on before we could get anywhere near the van to leave the college.

This afternoon we went to J's new allergist for testing.  They didn't want to do one of those horrible skin tests(where they poke or scratch your kids back in a bunch of little spots then smear in the allergens) for peanuts because they didn't need an anaphylactic reaction going on in a specialty clinic; not to mention, it would be hard to determine if any other reactions were going on.  And since they decided to draw blood for the peanut test, why not pull extra blood for the other allergens and spare him any skin test at all - smart doctor.

It took 3 pokes of needles in different places(inside of elbow veins - yummy) because J's blood was clotting very quickly; 25 cc's later we were done and booked for another appointment January 5th to get the results.  They are testing him for the "Nut Mix Panel", "Seafood Panel", "Childhood Allergen Panel", Bermuda , Johnson Grass, Timothy Grass, Ragweed - Short, Ragweed - Giant, and Hickory/Pecan.

Though I wish I had the results before Christmas, I am willing to wait for accuracy.  One thing I didn't connect too much till speaking to the doctor - J only has to use his albuterol inhaler at home (cigarette smoke) and he never needs his inhaler at my parents' house (NO cigarette smoke).

I am hoping to get some entries in about the goofy and fun things T & J have done lately...I will be out of town next Tues-Thurs though, so I better step on it.
    November 29

    Upcoming appointments

December will only hold two appointments for the twins if all goes well.

December 1 - J will visit an allergist for testing (2 hour appointment expected)
    December 15 - T & J will go for their 2nd dental check-up

I'll try to follow-up on the allergist experience this weekend...can't wait.

    Thanksgiving

The holidays are normally a very stressful time due to the seemingly millions of places we have to go to stuff our faces and see our family.  My husband traditionally despises the holiday season, but this year he has been faking happy - BABE, IF YOU READ THIS, THANK YOU FOR MAKING THANKSGIVING WORK .

For Thanksgiving we went to my parents house to see them, my brother, (who we see all week too) and my Aunt Sh.  We ate cold-cut sandwiches - I LOVE a break in tradition.  We had a great time just chatting and eating.
Next we drove an hour to my hubby's step-sister's house for dinner with his dad and step-mom and everyone else that comes with that side of the family.  We had a good time; the kids had a blast with their cousins (S, C, L, and a new cousin is due April 22, 2006).  Not much happened that was unpleasant other than the terror I felt from my son running around a kitchen that had in it a dead bird fried in PEANUT oil.  I'll admit I was a spaz, but for good reason; you can never tell where someone might touch with peanut oil on their fingers...oven knob, chair, garbage can, faucet, toilet flush handle, etc.  Some may have even dripped onto the floor and gone ANYWHERE in the whole house.  Some of them tried convincing me J could eat the white meat because the oil doesn't seep in past the skin; I thoughtfully reminded them that they sliced through the crispy, oily skin to cut the white meat....CROSS CONTAMINATION.
Upon first arriving we kept the twins outside to play; my hubby sat on a yard/lawn swing with them but swung a little too hard...the frame of the swing had the turkey thermometer on it...it hit the ground, and I picked it up - OOPS!  Anyway, I rushed inside and scrubbed off the oil, and all was well.  You have to wonder though, exactly how good is the service in the Children's Hospital ER on Thanksgiving Day?
They made the traditional stuff: Turkey(Peanut Oil), Shoepeg Corn(Topped with nuts), Sweet Potato casserole(Topped with nuts), Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Rolls....maybe some other stuff.  All I had was some Milo's sweet tea, but the hubby and kids ate well.  We sat J down at a Spongebob table with his only female cousin S (3 months younger than T & J).  They sat and talked; J even offered her a "geen bean" which she kindly took, ate, and replaced with one from her plate.  It was really sweet.  T sat in my lap at the other kids' table eating green beans and a roll; the other two cousins L (almost 4 yo) and C (8 yo) and my hubby.  It is odd that all of the cousins so far...all 5 of the kids love green beans.  After J finished his dinner, we sat T down with S where they got along well; scary, but true, T stole turkey off of her cousins' plate....luckily J wasn't touched by the evil turkey.
Later that night, at home, I changed T's diaper and overalls; this very tan, turdish object came out of her overalls and landed by my pillow.  Thank goodness it was just the roll turned into a super-compressed "burb ball", and yes I did have to sniff it to determine what it was. - Photo Below

I forgot to mention the album

Toward the bottom of this page, you will see a photo album.  If you have any kids you need to amuse (or teach) please click on the album labeled "For the little learning bloggers..."
I put some items, numbers, and colors up for my kids and any others that stop by my blog.  Enjoy!

    Random acts of toddlerness...or boredom

Lately the activity level of the twins has tripled.  Here is an abbreviated list of the "not-so-pleasant" surprises the twins have greeted me with lately:
    • J busted his upper gums...his upper lip too.  He even ripped the frenum (Frenum: The fleshy muscle attachment which joins the inner surface of the of the lip to the gum between the teeth) which I know hurt like the dickens; the swelling went up his nostrils a bit, but not enough to rush him to the hospital.  Photo below
    • I have tried out the playpen again as a distraction in the nursery; instead of hiding in it, the kids move/flip/crush that poor playpen.  Just to prove they could do it, the twins flipped it over and jumped in the middle of the bottom(now the top).  Needless to say, the playpen lost that battle.  Below are photos of each kid on the upside down pen...plus a before & after shot of the playpen's structure(that blue pole should be straight).
    • The twins have moved beyond mattress removal; now they move the beds anywhere they please.  J moved a bed to the dresser to get on top; he dumped out all of his snacks, and he shredded the wipes for his sister to chew on.  Picture below
    • Next the twins flipped the entire bed frame; they have flipped it every possible direction, but I only got a photo of the bed on its side...Photo below
    • J got fed up with moving a bed across the room to climb on the dresser, so he started climbing right up the front.  Of course, he emptied three of the four drawers on that white dresser to get to the top.  Being fed up with fighting the laundry war, I turned the dresser around and left the towels, blankets, etc on the floor for the kids to be amused with.  Photo below
    • There is only one thing better than being on top of a forbidden dresser - being stuck behind it with a wet diaper on a power strip.  J fell which unplugged the DVD player...he never would have made it out on his own.  Photo below
    • T has been in a kissing mood; unfortunately, J has to sleep sometimes.  J was so tired that he fell asleep on the floor with T slapping his bare belly over and over.  Photo below

There are other things that happened, but I'm getting sleepy.  I'll write more about the good and bad of toddlerhood as soon as I can.  I haven't even spoke of Thanksgiving yet, but photos are in the album below.

*MSN Spaces likes to change the order of my uploaded photos, so they might not be in the order they were written about.

    State of discipline

Since we began time-out (again) the twins have stopped hitting themselves; also, they have really been good to each other (compared).  J had not bitten T since Sunday until he bit her arm one time this afternoon.  He has wanted too bite, but he stops himself - I am so proud of my little manT, on the other hand, has bitten me a few times out of frustration at the Health Department....she is impatient when it comes to the slow folks at WIC.

I have actually put the kids in time-out more for hair-pulling and hitting than biting.  Overall, I feel like we are making great progress in teaching/learning right from wrong.  After J leaves time-out he always gives his sister a kiss; soon we will teach him to say "sorry" too.

    Toddlers...gotta love 'em

To begin, I would like to say know my kids are quite "active"...some people tell me their kids never got into anything.  Mine get into anything and everything.

The twins have pushed their beds around since the week after we got them; J began crawling under his bed last week.  Then the day before Thanksgiving I walked in to find them blocking the door with a crib mattress; I pushed it away (with T sitting on top) to survey the rest of the damage.  J was "bottomless" climbing all over the wooden bed frame; I was simply thankful his diaper hadn't had poop in it this time.  It is hard not to laugh at scenes like that.  Photo is below.

I'm sure you've read the previous posts involving the battle of toddlers vs. electronics.  A reminder picture of a flipped over boom box and VCR is below.  I have been searching for a good answer to the question "Where the heck can I put the TV, VCR, DVD player, and boom box, that they can't destroy it?"  I finally took some old milk crates from college and stuffed them in the corner of the nursery between the two dressers.  I put the TV on top, and the other devices on top of that; I wedged them well enough in the corner to buy myself a week or two (I hope).  Photo is below.

Oh yeah, the DVD player still works; I put it in the corner stack tonight.  The Lion King plays until the menu screen, maybe after that too...I ejected it for The Wubbulous World of Dr. Suess.
